estimated at 15.1 billion bushels, up 7 percent from the 2020
estimate. The average yield in the United States was estimated at a
record high 177.0 bushels per acre, 5.6 bushels above the 2020 yield
of 171.4 bushels per acre. Area harvested for grain was estimated at
85.4 million acres, up 4 percent from the 2020 estimate. (Over 9500

Soybean production in 2021 totaled a record
4.44 billion bushels, up 5 percent from 2020. The average yield per
acre was estimated at 51.4 bushels, up 0.4 bushel from 2020.

All wheat: Production totaled 1.65 billion
bushels in 2021, down 10 percent from the 2020 total of 1.83 billion
bushels. Area harvested for grain totaled 37.2 million acres, up 1
percent from the previous year. The United States yield was
estimated at 44.3 bushels per acre, down 5.4 bushels from the
previous year. |

Sweet corn: Total production in 2020 totaled
62.9 million cwt, down slightly from 2019. Planted area was
estimated at 402,900 acres, down 1 percent from the previous year.
Area harvested, at 386,200 acres, was down 1 percent from 2019. The
value of the crop totaled $743 million, 14 percent more than the
previous year. Utilized production totaled 62.7 million cwt, of
which 15.1 million cwt was for the fresh market and 2.38 million
tons were for processing. |

Tomatoes: Total production in 2020 totaled 241
million cwt, up 1 percent from 2019. Planted area was estimated at
280,000 acres, down 1 percent from the previous year. Area
harvested, estimated at 272,900 acres, was down slightly from 2019.
The value of the crop totaled $1.66 billion, 4 percent more than the
previous season. Utilized production totaled 239 million cwt, of
which 12.6 million cwt was for the fresh market and 11.3 million
tons for processing. |

Head lettuce: Total production in 2020 totaled
40.7 million cwt, down 3 percent from 2019. Planted area was
estimated at 114,000 acres, down 2 percent from the previous year.
Area harvested, at 112,900 acres, was down 3 percent from 2019. The
value of the crop totaled $1.25 billion, 12 percent less than the
previous season. Utilized production totaled 40.7 million cwt, all
of which was for the fresh market. |
